Diwali is a very famous Hindu festival and is celebrated all over India. It is a festival of lights and that it would be incomplete without Diya.
In this auspicious festival, the decoration is done and the diyas are arranged in a row and are also used in rangoli. Some diyas also stood before the goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati and the great Lord Ganesha. Everyone enjoys greater prosperity and success.
But using normal diyas without decoration doesn’t look good. And hence we had written a step-by-step guide for decorating diyas for Diwali.

Things Required For Decorating Diya for Diwali
- Diya
- Pencil
- Pastel / Water-Colors – Dark Pink, Dark Green, Yellow
- Water-Color Brush
- Ear Buds

Steps for Decorating Diya For Diwali
Step 1)
Take one Diya, hold it from the sideview and with the help of pencil, draw semi-circles of 1-1.5 cm diameter on the top side as shown in the picture below.
Step 2)
Now carefully fill those semicircles with Dark Pink color using the water-color brush. Make sure, the color don’t go outside the semicircles or else it’ll spoil the aesthetic look of our Diya.
Step 3)
Now color the inside surface of Diya using Dark Pink color as shown in the picture below.
Step 4)
Take Dark Green color and fill the remaining outside surface of Diya with the help of water-color brush. If you want, you can also color the base of Diya for better perfection. Make sure, the Dark Green color don’t mix with the Dark Pink color.
Step 5)
Now take Ear buds and dip it in yellow color in such a way that only the tip of ear buds gets soak with color. And now apply the dots of yellow color concentric to the pink semicircles as shown in the picture below.
Step 6)
Now draw the figure like Sun and sun rays with the help of same ear bud and Yellow color as shown in the picture below.
That’s it, you had successfully decorated Diya for Diwali.
Places For Keeping Diya in Diwali
- In front of Main Door
- In the center of Rangoli
- Below different trees nearby us
- Cross-roads of the house
- In front of the temple
- In the kitchen, mostly where we place our drinking water.
And in any place of your house, where there is not sufficient light, Diya should be placed over there. Note that, Diya should be faced towards South-West Angle of the house.
